Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You run the sp_addsubscription stored procedure in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 to add an article to a subscription.

  • You set the @sync_type parameter of the stored procedure to replication support only.

In this scenario, you receive the following error message:

Error 6512:
Failed to initialize the Common Language Runtime (CLR) %ls with HRESULT 0x%x. You need to restart SQL Server to use CLR integration features.

If you restart SQL Server 2008, all the existing articles in the subscription are dropped.
