Internet Explorer 8 does not respect the Security Features Group Policy settings

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that has Windows Internet Explorer 8 installed, you configure Group Policy settings under one of the following nodes:

User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Security Features

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Security Features

However, some settings do not work on as expected.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Internet Explorer 8 does not read the registry keys that are set by the Group Policy settings.

The registry keys are located under the following registry entries:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl

Security update information

To resolve this problem, install the most recent cumulative security update for Windows Internet Explorer. To do this, visit the following Microsoft website:
