Symptoms
You access a music library in Windows Media Center or in Windows Media Center Extender on a computer that is running Windows 7. However, it takes a long time before the music library becomes available.
This issue frequently occurs when you perform one of the following actions:
-
You shut down the Windows Media Center Extender by pressing the power button.
Note In a typical situation, you click Tasks and then click Close to shut down the Windows Media Center Extender. -
You shut down the computer unexpectedly. For example, you shut down the computer by pressing the power button while you are using Windows Media Center.
Note It can take several minutes to rebuild the music library, depending on the size of the library.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

File information

The dates and the times for these files on your local computer are displayed in your local time together with your current daylight saving time (DST) bias. Additionally, the dates and the times may change when you perform certain operations on the files.
Windows 7 file information notes

The MANIFEST files (.manifest) and the MUM files (.mum) that are installed for each environment are listed separately in the "Additional file information for Windows 7" section. MUM and MANIFEST files, and the associated security catalog (.cat) files, are extremely important to maintaining the state of the updated component. The security catalog files, for which the attributes are not listed, are signed with a Microsoft digital signature.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
More Information
If the issue still occurs after you install the hotfix, you can perform one of the following actions:
-
Make sure that the music library is fully rebuilt before you exit Windows Media Center or Windows Media Center Extender.
-
Disable the media streaming or the media sharing feature in Windows Media Player. To do this, follow these steps:
-
Open Windows Media Player, and then click Stream.
-
If you see the "Turn on Media Streaming" option, media streaming is already disabled. Therefore, you do not have to continue to step 3.
-
If you see the "More streaming options" option, click this option, and then click Block all to prevent everyone from playing your media.
-
Click OK to apply the change, and then close Windows Media Player.
-

Prevent Windows Media Player from retrieving related media information from Internet. To do this, follow these steps:
-
Open Windows Media Player, click Organize, and then click Options.
-
Click the Privacy tab, and then clear the Update music files by retrieving media info from the Internet check box.
-
Click OK to apply the change, and then close Windows Media Player.

Note This issue may occur when you add new assets to the music library.
