MOD2000: Workflow Toolbar Fails to Unlock Controls in Page View in Microsoft Access

SYMPTOMS

You find that fields are not updateable in a data access page that contains the Office Developer Workflow toolbar when you view the data access page in Microsoft Access 2000. This happens even though you clicked one of the transition buttons (that is New, Edit, Resolve, or Assign) on the toolbar before you tried to change any data. The page is updateable, however, when you view the page in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 if you first click one of the transition buttons.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Office Developer Workflow toolbar fails to unlock the data in the data access page if you view the page in Access. The behavior in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 is the intended behavior.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Developer Service Release 1 (SR-1).

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

On the Access Workflow Designer server, open the New Team Solutions Wizard, and then create a new solution with the IssueTracking example template.
When the resulting IssueTracking.adp opens, click Pages, and then click New.
Click Page Wizard, click IssuesView in the list, and then click OK.
In the Page Wizard, click the double arrow >> button to include all the fields, and then click Finish.
Click between the title and the header to position a blinking mouse pointer there.
On the Insert menu, click ActiveX Control. The Insert ActiveX Control dialog box appears.
Click Microsoft Office Developer Workflow Toolbar, and then click OK. The toolbar appears beneath the title at the top of the page.
Right-click the data area in the page, and then click Properties.
On the Data tab, type Issues in the Unique Table property, and then close the property sheet.
Click the Workflow Toolbar Control to display its properties. In the property sheet, click the Data tab, and then set the RecordSource property to IssuesView.
Save the page as MyPage in the IssueTracking folder on your Web server.
Quit Access.
Open the default IssueTracking Web page in Internet Explorer. The location should as follows:
<servername>/issuetracking/GridView.htm
Click New to create an issue, type some sample data, and then save the data.
In Internet Explorer, open the data access page that you created earlier in Access. The location should be as follows:
<servername>/issuetracking/MyPage.htm
Locate the record that you entered earlier. On the Workflow toolbar, click Edit. Note you can change editable fields here.
Quit Internet Explorer, and then reopen the IssueTracking.adp file in Access.
Click Pages, and then open MyPage in Page view. Note the record that you entered earlier.
On the Workflow toolbar, click Edit. Note that you cannot change any of the fields now.
