SYMPTOMS

In a Microsoft Host Integration Server 2009 environment, when you try to read binary data from DB2, the operation may fail. Depending on the actual data in DB2, the data that is returned may be NULL (empty) or truncated.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when the data in DB2 contains a binary zero (NULL) in a varchar column, and the data provider used the NULL as a terminator.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
