You may receive the following error message in the system logs when attempting to rebuild the news feed .hsh files:
virtual server 1: an error occurred during rebuild
CAUSE
The rebuild process does not work after a null message is encountered. The process does not mark the message as bad, then skip, and continue as expected.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the

How to Obtain the Latest Windows 2000 Service Pack
NOTE: To view the version, right-click the file in Windows
Explorer, click Properties on the menu that appears, and then click the
Version tab.With this fix, the rebuild process skips the directory or marks the file as bad, and continues with the rebuild process. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 1.
