EdgeTransport.exe randomly stops responding on a Hub Transport server after you configure public folder replication in Exchange Server 2007

SYMPTOMS

After you configure public folder replication on a Hub Transport server that has Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 installed, the EdgeTransport.exe process randomly stops responding. Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:
Event ID : 4999
Raw Event ID : 4999
Category : General
Source : MSExchange Common
Type : Error
Generated : time
Written : time
Machine : computer
Message : Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: Process ID, with parameters: E12, Build Type, Version Number, edgetransport, M.E.D.Storage, M.E.D.S.MailboxSession.get_MailboxGuid, System.NullReferenceException, XXXX, Version Number

CAUSE

This issue occurs when Edgetransport.exe processes the Mailbox GUID attribute of the public folder replication content messages. The value of the Mailbox GUID attribute is NULL. This causes an exception to be thrown.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
2602324 Description of Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 3
