For example, some third-party server message block (SMB) clients may encounter an authentication failure. CAUSEThis issue occurs because security update 2478960 that is documented in security bulletin MS11-014 removes the negotiate hint field in a SMB negotiate protocol response. The negHints.hintName field contains the name of the server principal that is the service principal on the server and that has the user-name@domain-name format. In RFC 4178, the negHints.hintName field is an optional field. However, some third-party applications depend on the values in this field. Therefore, this issue occurs when the field is removed.
