SYMPTOMS

This article describes a hotfix package that resolves some issues in Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1).

Issue 1

After you install Cumulative Update 1 for System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1, the following Event ID 33333 events are logged in the event log on the Service Manager management server:

Issue 2

You receive duplicated notifications or workflows that are triggered two times for the same object.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

To install this hotfix, you must have Microsoft System Center Service Manager 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Cumulative Update for System Center Service Manager 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed.

This hotfix applies to the following Service Manager components:
  • Service Manager Management Server (SM Server)

How to install this hotfix

Important Before you install this hotfix, we recommend that you follow these steps:
  1. Back up the following databases:
    • ServiceManager
  2. Back up the encryption keys for SM Server.

To install this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Exit all Service Manager-related applications before you apply this hotfix.

    For example, exit the Service Manager Console, the Self-Service Portal links, and the authoring tool.
  2. Download this hotfix to a target folder.
  3. Open the target folder.
  4. Right-click the following file, and then click Run as administrator:
    Scsm2010sp1_od_kb2538810_amd64_7.0.6555.110_en.exe
  5. Accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then follow the steps in the installation wizard.
Note This hotfix does not install any new files and only updates the following stored procedures in the ServiceManager database:
  • p_RelatedEntityChangeLogInsertion
  • p_EntityChangeLogSnapshot

How to determine whether this hotfix is installed correctly

To determine whether this hotfix is installed correctly, use one of the following methods.
  • Method 1
    1. In Control Panel, open Programs and Features.
    2. Click View installed updates.
    3. Check whether the following item is listed in the list that appears:
      Hotfix for Microsoft System Center Service Manager SP1 (KB2538810)
      Note If the computer is running SM Server, this item appears under Microsoft System Center Service Manager SP1.
  • Method 2
    Check whether the log files recorded any error during the installation of the hotfix. To do this, examine the following log files in the %temp% folder:
    • Scsm2010sp1_od_kb2538810_amd64_7.0.6555.110_en.msp.0.log
    • Scsmpatchersetupwizard01.log
To determine whether this issue is resolved, check whether the Operations Manager log contains any new Event ID 33333 events after you install this hotfix. Also make sure that you determine whether any new notifications are duplicates.
