This article describes how to export and copy maps from
Microsoft Streets and Trips to Microsoft Pocket Streets.
To be imported into Microsoft Pocket Streets 2003, a map must have
been created in Microsoft Streets and Trips version 2002 or later versions. You cannot import maps
from Microsoft Streets and Trips 2001 or earlier into Pocket Streets 2003.
To
export and copy maps from Streets and Trips 2001 and Streets & Trips 2002
to Pocket Streets, use the following methods in the order that they are
presented in.
Export the map
- Adjust the map view so that the area of the map that you
want to export is visible.
Note Any Pushpins that are included in the selected area are also
exported. However, the maximum length of both the title and body of the text
that appears in the Pushpin balloon is 128 characters. Also, none of the
additional fields selected in Pushpin properties will be exported. - On the File menu, click Export Map for Pocket Streets.
A window appears that reports the approximate file
size for the map area that you selected. Make sure that there is enough space
available on your Pocket PC for the map that you want to export. For more
information, see the documentation that came with your Pocket PC. - Click OK.
- Type a name for the map area, and then click Save. The file creation process may take several minutes, depending on
the speed of the desktop computer.
- After the file is created, you receive a dialog box that
contains the path to the folder in which the file is saved.
By
default, the file is saved in the My Documents folder on the desktop computer
(on Microsoft Windows 2000-based desktop computers the file is saved in
Documents and Settings\username\My Documents on the
hard disk where Windows is installed).
Copy an exported map to your Pocket PC
- Connect your Pocket PC to your desktop computer.
- On your desktop computer, double-click the Microsoft ActiveSync icon, and then click Explore.
Microsoft Windows Explorer opens and displays the Mobile Device
folder for your Pocket PC. - Use Windows Explorer to locate any map (.mps) or Pushpin
(.psp) files that you exported for use with Pocket Streets.
- Copy these files to a folder in the Mobile Device window
for your connected Pocket PC.
Notes- If you copy files to a Pocket PC, you must copy the files
to My Documents.
- If you copy files to a compact flash card, you must first
create a My Documents folder on the compact flash card, and then copy the files
to that folder.
- It is slower to work with files that are stored on a
compact flash card than with files that are stored on your Pocket
PC.
- If the map that you export contains Pushpins, a
corresponding Pushpin (.psp) file is also created. Both the map file and
Pushpin file must have the same file name and be copied to the same folder on
your Pocket PC.
