Symptoms

The date displayed in the search results does not match the modified date with that of a document on the file share in SharePoint 2010. This works as expected in SharePoint 2007.

Cause

In SharePoint 2010, we enabled the capability of extracting date from the document instead of metadata, based on customer feedback and this is the default setup. Hence the registry change to enable metadata based results.
