SYMPTOMS

When you try to generate a list of valves in a sample diagram by using the steps on page 54 of the Visio 2000 Technical Edition User Guide, the Process Engineering menu does not appear as expected.

CAUSE

The information in the user guide is incomplete. The sample diagram (SamplePID1.vsd) is part of a sample Process Engineering project (Sample Project.vsd) in the Visio\Samples\Process Engineering\Process Engineering Project folder. Opening the sample diagram separately from the project it is part of will not start the Process Engineering solution and will disable the enhancements and component data included in a Process Engineering project (this includes the Process Engineering menu).

RESOLUTION

Open the sample Process Engineering project before following the steps on page 54 of the Visio 2000 Technical Edition User Guide.

To generate a list of all valves in the sample diagram:

  1. Open Sample Project.vsd in Visio\Samples\Process Engineering\Process Engineering Project.
  2. In the Project Explorer, double-click samplepid1.
  3. Follow the steps on page 54 of the Visio 2000 Technical Edition User Guide beginning with Step 2.
