Installation information

Apply this update rollup on computers that are running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Server components or Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook components. If you have not installed Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) 4.5, an Internet connection is required to install Update Rollup 20 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook. This is because you must download MSI 4.5. You must restart computers that are running Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook after you install Update Rollup 20.

Notes
  • Update Rollup 20 will install the Microsoft Report Viewer 2008 Redistributable Package.
  • Update Rollup 20 will install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package.
You must install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 Language Pack before you install Update Rollup 20 on computers that are running Multilingual User Interface (MUI). To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Visit the following Microsoft website:

  2. In the Change Language drop-down box, select the appropriate language.
  3. Click Change to download the language pack.
Note If you installed this language pack previously, you must unprovision the language pack, install Update Rollup 20 on computers that are running MUI, and then reprovision the language pack. When you unprovision the language pack, all Microsoft Dynamics CRM users who use that language will have their language settings reverted to the base language. When you reprovision the language pack, users' language settings are not updated. You must reset the language settings in the Personal options.

After you install this update rollup, you must delete the temporary files in Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Use one of the following methods, as appropriate for the version of Internet Explorer that you are using:
    • In Internet Explorer 8 or in Internet Explorer 9, click Delete in the Browsing history area, click to select the Temporary Internet files check box in the Delete Browsing History dialog box, click Delete, and then click OK.
    • In Internet Explorer 7, click Delete in the Browsing history area, click Delete files in the Temporary Internet Files area, and then click Yes.
    • In Internet Explorer 6, click Delete files in the Temporary Internet Files area, and then click OK.
The installation location of some Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook files is changed from the roaming profile to the local profile.

To reduce the size of the roaming profile, or if you experience long log-in times, remove the remaining files. To do this, follow the steps in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed to apply this update rollup. Additionally, Update Rollup 7 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is a prerequisite for Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Microsoft Office Outlook and Microsoft Dynamics CRM Data Migration Manager.

Notes about how to export and import customizations

You can export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 19 installed. You can also export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Update Rollup 20 installed. Then, you can import those customizations to a server that has Update Rollup 2 or a later update rollup installed.

If you export customizations from a server that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you must not import the customizations to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server in the following scenarios:
  • The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has no updates installed. Or, it has only Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed. However, the server that you use to import the customizations has only Update Rollup 20 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.
  • The Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 server that you use to export the customizations has only Update Rollup 20 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed. However, the server that you use to import the customizations has no updates installed. Or, it has only Update Rollup 1 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 installed.

Update Rollup 20 for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 contains no hotfixes or updates that were released as individual fixes.

Update Rollup 20 contains the following additional fixes. None of these fixes are documented in a separate Knowledge Base article.

  • Users who have Read permission and Append permission are incorrectly able to delete members in a shared marketing list in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
  • When you open a record in an associated view in Internet Explorer 9, the picklist fields do not work correctly. More specifically, when you click the picklist fields, nothing occurs.
  • The mail merge mutex object is not cleaned up if a mail merge process is left idle for more than 30 minutes. Therefore, when you run the next mail merge process, you receive an error message that states that a mail merge process is already running.
  • When Microsoft Exchange 2010 is being used, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 does not track email messages that are generated by RightFax.
  • When Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 retrieves user information from a large domain that contains multiple child domains, you experience slow performance.
  • When you use the workflow designer to associate a contract with an account in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, the contract list displays no active contract for the corresponding customer.

  • The Accounts: No orders in last 6 months system view displays the same customer multiple times.
  • Log levels for Microsoft Exchange Web Service (EWS) traces are set incorrectly to Default instead of Verbose in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
  • Assume that you use Internet Explorer 9 to log on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. When you edit multiple email fields in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you receive the following error message:

  • When you synchronize appointments in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 with Microsoft Office Outlook, the appointments are generated as meeting requests. This occurs even though there are no attendees who are listed in the appointments. 
  • When you save an appointment with a duration of zero minutes, you receive the following error message:
    User is being scheduled outside their work hours.
  • You cannot change the business unit of a user who is in a resource group when you use Administrative mode.
  • You cannot deploy rules to the mailboxes of different users in a Microsoft Exchange 2010 environment. This problem occurs when the Exchange Client Access server (CAS) role and the Exchange Mailbox server role are assigned to different servers.
  • If an item is opened in Outlook, you cannot promote the item in the Inbox mail list.
  • When you use Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 E-mail Router to send email messages, random characters are unexpectedly added to the subject header of the email messages. Therefore, the email messages may be classified incorrectly as junk email messages.

Special Considerations

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 does not support 64-bit versions of Microsoft Office 2010.

With Update Rollup 8 installed, the Microsoft CRM E-mail Router Service supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.

With Update Rollup 12 installed, the Rule Deployment Wizard supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.
