SYMPTOMS

After you install a Visio 5.0c upgrade over a Visio 5.0, 5.0a, or 5.0b edition of Visio, you may receive the following error message:
An unspecified error occurred.

RESOLUTION

To resolve the error, you must run the Visio Uninstall program to remove the full Visio edition, and then install only the Visio 5.0c upgrade.

When you install a Visio upgrade on a computer that does not have an existing Visio product, the Visio Setup program prompts you to enter the earlier version's serial number to complete the installation. You can find the earlier version's serial number on the product registration card. If you no longer have the registration card or serial number, please contact Microsoft Product Support Services.
