Symptoms
Assume that you use Group Policy Preferences (GPP) to manage the mapping of drives in a network environment. Additionally, you set the non-persistent flag when you map a drive on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. However, when the client computer is not connected to the network, the mapped drive is displayed unexpectedly as a disconnected drive in Windows Explorer.
Note This issue does not occur if you use the following command to configure the non-persistent flag or the persistent flag:
NET USE /PERSISTENT:{YES | NO}
Cause
This issue occurs because of an error in GPP that causes it to ignore the non-persistent flag during the drive-mapping process.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Registry information
To use the hotfix in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.

More Information
After you install this hotfix, Group Policy is applied synchronously during the next logon if a drive that is marked "no reconnect" is mapped. Therefore, it may take longer than expected to log on to the client computer.
