FtpCommand() WinInet Function Stops Responding

SYMPTOMS

When you use the FtpCommand() WinInet function to develop Internet client programs, the FtpCommand() function may cause extended error 12003 or cause these programs to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

The FtpCommand() function does not wait for the final 226 closing response from the server before the next File Transfer Protocol (FTP) operation. Because FTP allows only one active operation in each session, the requests and responses are not synchronized and lead to error 12003 or cause the client to hang.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer version 5.01. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS
