Consider the following scenario:
  • You run a Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3-based image that includes the Internet Explorer 6 Sample Browser component.
  • You use the Internet Explorer 6 browser to open a local file by using a URL that begins with file://. The format of the local file is unsupported for the browser. For example, you use the following URL string:
  • Then you receive the error message:

There is no application associated with 'test'. Run the application first, then open this file from within the application.tHENThe format of the local file is unsupported by the browser.
In this scenario, the file is deleted unexpectedly after you close the error dialog box.

The issue occurs because Internet Explorer assumes that the file is always downloaded to the Internet Explorer cache and then tries to delete the file when it is no longer needed. However, the file may not be located in the cache folder at all. Therefore, an unnecessary deletion operation occurs.
