Daylight Saving Time Incorrect for the Sydney Olympics in 2000

The time and appointments on your Windows CE-based device may be an hour off from Sunday, 8/27/2000, to Saturday, 10/28/2000.

This behavior occurs because of the change in dates for daylight saving time by the New South Wales (NSW), Victorian (VIC), Australian Capital Territory (ACT), and Tasmanian (TAS) governments for the Sydney Olympics. The normal daylight saving time for Sydney is from the last Sunday of October through the last Sunday of March (for example, 10/28/2000 through 3/25/2001). However, because of the Sydney Olympics, the daylight saving time has been changed to 8/27/2000 through 3/25/2001 (that is, the last Sunday of August through last Sunday of March). If your Home City or Visiting City setting in World Clock is set to Sydney, NSW (Australia) from 8/27/2000 to 10/28/2000, your device's time and appointments may be off by an hour.

Because there is no preconfigured setting for Sydney in World Clock for the new daylight saving time from 8/27/2000 to 10/28/2000, you need to create a custom city. Use the normal Sydney, NSW (Australia) city setting from 10/29/2000 on.

Windows Pocket PC with Windows CE 3.0

Change the clock's default time zone for your city ("Sydney, NSW," "Canberra (Australia)," "Melbourne, VIC," or "Hobart, TAS") to a GMT+11 time zone from 8/27/2000 to 10/28/2000.

Windows CE 2.0, 2.11 for Palm-size PC and Windows CE 2.0, 2.11, 3.0 Professional Edition for Handheld PC

To create a custom city:

1. On the Windows CE-based device, tap Start, tap Settings, and then tap Control Panel.
2. Double-tap World Clock, and then tap the Options tab.
3. Tap Add, tap Sydney, NSW (Australia), and then tap OK.
4. Type a custom name for your city, such as Sydney Olympics Only.
5. Change the Time Zone setting to (GMT+11) Magadan, Solomon Is., New Caledonia.
6. Tap OK.

From 8/27/2000 to 10/28/2000, set your Home City setting in World Clock to the custom city you created. This allows for the appropriate time display on the device.

Windows Pocket PC with Windows CE 3.0

To change the clock's default time zone for your city:

1. On the Windows Pocket PC, tap Start, tap Settings, and then tap the System tab.
2. Double-tap Clock.
3. In the Home box, make sure that your home city is set to the appropriate city ("Sydney, NSW," "Canberra (Australia)," "Melbourne, VIC," or "Hobart, TAS").
4. In the Time Zone box, tap GMT+11 Magadan.
5. Tap OK.
6. When you are prompted to save the changes to the clock settings, click Yes.

From 8/27/2000 to 10/28/2000, set the time zone in Clock to the "GMT+11 Magadan" time zone. This causes the appropriate time to be displayed.
