SBS2011: The Update Services group policy settings are not accessible

SYMPTOMS

You get this error when you try to modify Update settings by clicking "Change the software update settings" on the Updates pane on SBS Console:

CAUSE

The exception is thrown by the function "GetPolicyConfiguration". It found something unexpected in the policy type. We have 2 policies that this function will call: "Update Services Client Computers Policy" and "Update Services Server Computers Policy"


One of the policies is either not present or has invalid name.

RESOLUTION

Make sure the name of the policy is exactly same as mentioned below:


"Update Services Client Computers Policy"

"Update Services Server Computers Policy"

If there is any change/difference in name of the policy, we see this error. After changing the name of the policy (in case mis-spelt), you need to link the policy again at the domain level.
