This article was previously published under Q257249 SYMPTOMS You cannot perform a download-only installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP. CAUSE This behavior is caused by a change in the Internet Explorer Setup program that allows installation in Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Because Internet Explorer installs only the core browser and scripting files in Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the Install Minimal, or customize your browser option is not available during installation. Therefore, the Component Options dialog box is not available for you to use the Download only option. RESOLUTION To perform a download-only installation from the Internet, follow these steps:
