How to disable unlisted add-ins in Outlook 2003

When you run Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 in safe mode by using the /safe command-line switch, all add-ins are not always disabled. The /safe command-line switch is more effective when you run Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010. The add-ins for these later versions of Outlook can still be managed by the registry. A complete list of add-ins can be viewed in the registry and can be altered by using the registry.

Important The following steps tell you how to modify the registry. Serious problems might occur if you incorrectly modify the registry. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. You can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

To disable unlisted add-ins in Outlook 2003, follow these steps:

Exit Outlook 2003.
Click Start, and then click Run. Type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then expand the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\
Rename the Addins subkey as Old_Addins.
Locate and then expand the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\
Rename the Addins subkey as Old_Addins.
