Violation Occurs When the Path in the #Include Virtual or File Directive Is More Than 260 Characters

SYMPTOMS

If a long path or file name (more than 260 characters) is used in the  directive in an ASP page, IIS generates an Access Violation error message.

CAUSE

The buffer allocated for the file name is 260 characters long. Therefore, a file name that is more than 260 characters causes a buffer overflow and an Access Violation error message to occur.

Windows 2000

MORE INFORMATION

A fix has been added to check the file-name length. If the file name is more than 260 characters, a "Include file not found" error message is returned to the browser.
