FIX: Visual Basic IDE Crashes Changing Control's Name in Properties Window

SYMPTOMS

If you have many controls on a form, changing the name of controls in the Properties window sometimes causes the Visual Basic integrated development environment (IDE) to crash with an Access Violation.

This crash occurs very rarely.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This bug was corrected in the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6.0.
