SYMPTOMS

The "Computers Near Me" group in My Network Places may be missing.

CAUSE

The "Computers Near Me" group may have been deleted. It is not re-created automatically.

RESOLUTION

To re-create the "Computers Near Me" group in My Network Places, use either of the following methods:

Method 1

Change the computer to a different workgroup. This should cause the "Computers Near Me" group to be re-created. Then, change the workgroup back to the original workgroup.

Method 2

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

Make the following registry change:
Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Value Name: Last Domain
Data Type: REG_SZ
Value: 0,0,Unknown
You do not have to restart the computer. The "Computers Near Me" group appears in My Network Places the next time you open it.
