No results returned when you use the ExpandGroup method in EWS to retrieve a list of members of a Dynamic Distribution Group in an Exchange Server 2010 environment

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a Dynamic Distribution Group in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment.
  • Certain recipients in the organization match the criteria that are defined for the Dynamic Distribution Group.
  • You try to use the ExpandGroup method in Exchange Web Services (EWS) to retrieve the list of members of the Dynamic Distribution Group.
In this scenario, the list returns no results for the Dynamic Distribution Group.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the ExchangeService.ExpandGroup method that EWS uses does not expand the Dynamic Distribution Group when it tries to determine the list of members.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
