"File Not Found" Error Message When You Try to Open ftp://servername/directoryname/file.txt;type=a

SYMPTOMS

When you try to open the following Uniform Resource Locator (URL), you may receive a "file not found" error message:
ftp://servername/directoryname/file.txt;type=a

CAUSE

The software that parses the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) URL does not strip ;type=a when passing the file name to the function that opens the remote file.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer version 5.01. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
