Summary

Any web application which does not have a site collection and web provisioned at the root (/) is not supported unless every site collection is a host header site collection in the web application.

For more about host header or host-named site collections, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx

Furthermore, in order to use the Send to Other location action with the Go to Source Item functionality in the web application when the Metadata Navigation and Filtering feature is enabled on the root web, users must have Read permissions on the site collection’s root web.

Follow these steps to verify if the root web has the Metadata Navigation and Filtering feature enabled:
  • Log in as a site collection administrator and open the root web of the root site collection
  • Open the Site Actions, Site settings page
  • Click on Manage site features under Site Actions section
  • Check if the Metadata Navigation and Filtering feature is enabled
  • If it is enabled then follow these steps to grant the required permissions to an Active Directory Group:

    • Log in as a site collection administrator and open the root web of the root site collection
    • Click on Site permissions link under the Users and Permissions section
    • Click on Permission levels on the ribbon
    • Click Add a Permissions level and specify the following

Descriptions: Limited Access for Go to Source Item functionalityCheck the following checkboxes:

    • Click Create at the bottom of the page
    • Open Site Actions, Site permissions page and click Grant Permissions on the ribbon
