SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Outlook 2010 does not support smart card-based credentials when you access your mailbox by using Outlook Anywhere (RPC/HTTP).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:

After you install the hotfix package, follow these steps to enable the hotfix:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  4. Type RPC, and then press ENTER.
  5. Locate and then select the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\RPC
  6. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD (32-bit) value.
  7. Type EnableSmartCard, and then press ENTER.
  8. Right-click EnableSmartCard, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
