Applies ToExchange Server 2010 Enterprise Exchange Server 2010 Standard

Symptoms

When you perform the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) backup of Exchange databases in a Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment, the memory usage of the MSExchangeRepl.exe process keeps increasing. When this issue occurs, the backup operation may fail. Additionally, the following events are logged in the Application log on the Exchange Server 2010 server:

Default can be overridden by setting registry key SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Replay\Parameters\MaximumProcessPrivateMemoryMB.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Exchange replication service VSS writer does not release the references to the XML description of backup components. Therefore, a handle leak occurs.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:
