Using an asterisk (*) for the preferred server in the NetWare client configuration causes the following error message:
Application Access Violation for Services.exe (0x000005).
CAUSE
When you log on, if you are prompted for the NetWare client configuration, using an asterisk (alone or followed by any other characters) in the Preferred Server box causes the error message.
The error message also occurs if the following registry value has become corrupted:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NWCWorkstation\Parameters\Option\{SID}\PreferredServer
