"Access Denied" Error Message When You Attempt to Set Dfs Replication Policy

SYMPTOMS

When you try to set a replication policy for the domain Distributed file system (Dfs) link, the policy may not be set and the following error message may be displayed:

The following error occurred while creating the staging path \\servername\drive$\Frs-Staging for subscriber object:
Access Denied.

This behavior occurs because the Administrator account does not have write permissions on the drive where the hidden folder (Frs-Staging) needs to be created. This hidden folder only needs to be created on the Dfs link that is set as the master or primary.

How to Set Replication Policy

Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK.
On the Console menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then click Add.
Click Distributed File System, click Add, click Close, and then click OK.
Click Distributed File System, click Display an existing Dfs Root, and then click OK.
Click the domain, and then click DFS Root.
Expand the root by clicking the plus sign (+) to view the Dfs links.
Right-click the Dfs link, and then click Replication Policy.
Click the shared folder that you want to set as the master, and then click Set Master.
Click another shared folder to which you want to replicate, click Enable, and then click OK to establish the replication policy.
