XADM: Exchange 2000 Servers Do Not Replicate to the Exchange Server 5.5 Directory

SYMPTOMS

Viewing the server membership of an administrative group from the Exchange System Manager may show more servers than when viewing the server membership from the Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when there is an issue with the Site Replication Service (SRS), the configuration Connection Agreement on the Active Directory Connector (ADC), or with the ADC service.

RESOLUTION

Make sure that the ADC service is started.
Locate the configuration Connection Agreement, and then force replication to occur.
Verify that replication occurs successfully. You can do so by connecting to the SRS database with the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program, and then checking the number of servers listed in the site.

If replication of the configuration Connection Agreement is successful, this number should now match the number you saw when viewing the Administrative Group membership through the Exchange System Manager.
Verify that replication occurs to the Exchange Server 5.5 directory. Wait for intrasite replication to occur between the SRS database and the Exchange Server 5.5 directory (this should be five minutes by default). You can speed up intrasite replication by performing an Update Now from the Exchange Server 5.5 directory.

In a mixed Exchange 2000/Exchange Server 5.5 administrative group and/or site, configuration information is replicated between the Exchange Server 5.5 directory and the Active Directory through the Site Replication Service (SRS), the Active Directory Connector (ADC), and a configuration Connection Agreement.

When the first Exchange 2000 Server computer is installed to join an existing Exchange Server 5.5 site, the existence of the Active Directory Connector is checked and verified. The Site Replication Service is installed on the Exchange 2000 Server computer, and a configuration Connection Agreement is also set up by default.
