Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:

You use Microsoft Project 2010 to connect to a team project that is hosted on a Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS) 2008 server or on a TFS 2010 server.

A work item on the TFS server contains a user. The value Display Name field of the user contains a special character. For example, the value contains character "[."
-
You try to open the work item in Microsoft Project 2010.
In this scenario, the Resource Name field for this user is blank.
Cause
The issue occurs because of an error in the Team Explorer add-in for Microsoft Project. Specifically, the add-in does not have the logic to handle special characters (except for the comma) in display names.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
To apply this hotfix, you must have Microsoft Visual Studio Team System 2010 Team Explorer Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on the client computer that has Microsoft Project installed.
Restart requirement
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfix.
