Assume that you run a System Center Configuration Manager 2007 task sequence on a Windows Embedded-based device. Additionally, Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 is installed on a compressed volume on the device. In this situation, the Write Filter feature may be disabled, and you cannot re-enable it.
This issue occurs because of an error that occurs when data is committed to a Write Filter-protected volume that uses NTFS compression.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix Download Available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

This hotfix updates the Edmstate.dat file so that this issue no longer occurs. Additionally, we recommend that you do not select the
Compress contents to save disk space check box in the Advanced Attributes window for the Edmstate.dat and Edlog.txt files.
PrerequisitesTo apply this software update, you must have Windows Embedded Device Manager 2011 installed.
Restart requirementYou must restart the computer after you install the hotfix if the affected files are being used.
