Article ID: 262166 - Last Review: February 23, 2007 - Revision: 2.2 Publishing Applications in Active Directory May Cause Error MessageThis article was previously published under Q262166 SYMPTOMS
When you assign an application with a Microsoft Windows Installer-based installation program to the Windows 2000 Active Directory, you may receive the following error message:
The size of this object exceeds the maximum size set by the Administrator.
CAUSE
This error is due to a size limitation in the database code that is used in the Windows 2000 Active Directory. This is currently a limitation that is usually exposed by repackaged installation programs.
RESOLUTION
When you attempt to distribute multiple applications in a single installation package, this error may occur. Therefore, if you can distribute each application separately, this issue can likely be resolved. There is no registry key or Windows 2000 Active Directory setting that can be used to raise the size for the record limit.
