SYMPTOMS

If you create a shortcut to a folder and then move the folder to another drive or partition on the computer, the path in the shortcut is not updated.

RESOLUTION

When you use the shortcut after moving the folder, Windows 2000 attempts to locate the folder and offers a "best guess." If you did not change the folder name when you moved it, Windows 2000 is likely to find the correct folder; you can then link it to the shortcut again.

If Windows 2000 cannot find the correct folder, you must search for the folder manually or create a new shortcut.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
