Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Assume that you perform a read operation on a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2 database page. The database page is not updated after a database snapshot is created.

In this situation, the database page is copied into the database snapshot.

Note This issue causes errors when the database is large and when many read and write operations occur. For example, if you run DBCC CHECKDB against the database when the size of the sparse file in the database snapshot exceeds the size limitation of the NTFS file system, you might receive the following error message:

Operating system error 665

Cause

This issue occurs because a transient change happens in the page header when you perform a read operation on the database page. Therefore, the database page is considered as updated and is copied into the snapshot.
