SYMPTOMS

When you try to remotely manage a Windows 2000-based computer from another Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive the following error message:
Computer \\computername.domain.com cannot be managed. The network path was not found.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks option is not enabled on the remote computer.

RESOLUTION

  1. On the computer that you want to manage remotely, right-click My Network Places, and then click Properties.
  2. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

  4. Click OK.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
