SYMPTOMS
A user that is already logged into a database, which has the option "single user" set to ON, may fail with the following error when a query is run while other users are trying to open the database:
Msg 924
Database <database name> is already open and can only have one user at a time.
WORKAROUND
Here are two ways to work around the error:
STATUS

MORE INFORMATION
The user that is already logged into the database may eventually be allowed to successfully run the query that encounters the 924 error message. However, if several users continually try to use the database, that user may not ever get the query to run successfully.
