FIX: User Logged Into DB in Single User Mode May Encounter 924 Error

A user that is already logged into a database, which has the option "single user" set to ON, may fail with the following error when a query is run while other users are trying to open the database:

Here are two ways to work around the error:

• Retry the query that encounters the 924 error message.
  
  -or-
  
  
• Use another method to provide exclusive access to the database, such as the "dbo use only" database option.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server 7.0. This problem has been corrected in U.S. Service Pack 3 for Microsoft SQL Server 7.0. The user that is already logged into the database may eventually be allowed to successfully run the query that encounters the 924 error message. However, if several users continually try to use the database, that user may not ever get the query to run successfully.
