This article describes how to determine the version of Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 (VMM 2008) and System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager (VMM 2012) based on binaries and installed updates. To determine whether you have the latest recommended binaries, see Recommended hotfixes for System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 and Recommended hotfixes for Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager.
To determine whether VMM 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) has been applied to your installation, open the VMM Administrator Console, click Help, and then click About. An RTM installation (that is, SP0 or non-SP1) will show a version of 2.0.427x.0 and will not indicate a service pack level. An SP1 computer will show a version of 2.0.4521.0 or later, and it will display the "Service Pack 1" string at the bottom of the dialog box.
To determine whether any update rollups have been applied, open the Programs and Features item in Control Panel, and then click View Installed Updates. Identify any items that are listed under Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 Server (x64) or Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 Administrator Console (x64). See the following table to determine which update rollup has been applied to your VMM computer:
