Symptoms

After a migration from Lotus Notes to Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, a user's mailbox contains duplicate content or contains double-byte characters that are displayed as question marks.

Cause

  1. If the mailbox contains duplicate content, the mailbox was migrated multiple times.
  2. If the mailbox contains double-byte characters that are displayed as question marks, the appropriate configuration was not present when the migration occurred.

Resolution

  1. To remove duplicate content, escalate the issue according to the terms of your organization's support agreement with Microsoft.
  2. To fix content that contains double-byte characters that are displayed as question marks, follow these steps:
    1. Instruct the user to delete all migrated content from the new mailbox. After all the user's migrated content is deleted from the new mailbox, the mailbox can be re-migrated correctly.
    2. Escalate the issue according to the terms of your organization's support agreement with Microsoft. Ask to schedule a new mailbox migration.
