A Windows Internet Explorer update rollup is available for Windows CE 5.0. This update rollup resolves the security issues that are described in the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Consider the following scenario:

You start a Windows CE 5.0-based image that includes the following update:
Windows CE 5.0 Monthly Update July 2011 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=A78CFCAA-DF59-4A7F-AB28-41BA337EEDB3&amp;displaylang=e&displaylang=en)
You use Internet Explorer to run JavaScript code.
You receive a Stack Overflow error message when the JavaScript code is run.

In this scenario, Internet Explorer crashes.

Note On a Windows CE 5.0-based image that does not include the July 2011 update, Internet Explorer does not crash. However, you receive the Stack Overflow error message.

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 5.0 Monthly Update December 2011. You can confirm this by scrolling to the "File information" section. The package file name contains the product version, date, Microsoft Knowledge Base article number, and processor type. The package file name uses the following format:

Product version-yymmdd-kbnnnnnn-processor type

For example, Wincepb50-060503-kb917590-armv4i.msi is the ARMV4i Windows CE 5.0 Platform Builder fix that is documented in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 917590 and that is contained in the May 2006 monthly update.

Prerequisites

This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you apply this update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

On the Build OS menu, make sure that the following options are selected, and then click Sysgen:
- Clean Before Building
- Copy Files to Release Directory After Build
- Make Run-Time Image After Build
On the Build OS menu, click Open Release Directory. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press Enter:
blddemo clean -q

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.
