Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 SP2 or 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 SP2 or 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a table that has a spatial data type column in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or SQL Server 2008 R2.

  • An index for the spatial data type column exists.

  • You try to run a DBCC CHECKDB command against the database that contains the table.

In this scenario, an access violation occurs in the SQL Server engine.

Note This issue occurs when you run a command in the DBCC CHECKDB family of commands.
