SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a modem pool with the Small Business Server Modem Sharing service from a Windows 2000-based computer, the modem may not respond or may respond incorrectly by not dialing, dialing only in pulse mode, or without using other initialization strings.

CAUSE

An incompatibility between the standard Unimodem driver and the Modem Sharing client results in a corrupted modem initialization string being sent to the modem. This prevents the modem from responding correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  3. Using Windows Explorer, locate and double-click the hotfix file.
