Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) fixes in one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security updates that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) update release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You create a report in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services (SSRS 2008 R2).

  • The report has a tablix data region, and the region contains some chart, gauge, or map items.

  • You deploy the report and try to review it.

In this scenario, you might receive the following error message:

An error occurred during client rendering: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Note If you use ReportViewer controls to view the report, no error message or exception stack is logged in the SSRS 2008 R2 log file.
