Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install PCI Express Fiber Channel host bus adapters (HBAs) on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. For example, you install a Brocade converged network adapter (CNA) mezzanine card.

  • You configure the computer to start from a hard disk drive that is connected to the HBAs.

  • You try to shut down or hibernate the computer.

In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that resembles the following:

STOP: 0x000000B8 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

Notes

  • This Stop error describes an ATTEMPTED_SWITCH_FROM_DPC issue.

  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.

  • Not all "Stop 0x000000B8" errors are caused by this issue.

If you receive the same error on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2490742 A "0x000000B8" Stop error occurs when you try to shut down or hibernate a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

Cause

This issue occurs because the Pci.sys driver tries to perform an operation (for example a wait, an attach, or a yield operation) that is not permitted during Deferred Procedure Call (DPC) processing.

netsh int ipv4 dump scriptfileTo restore these settings from the script file, run the following command:

netsh exec scriptfileFor more information about the netsh command, visit the following Microsoft websites:

Netsh Overview

Using NetshYou can also install hotfix 979101 to fix an existing issue with the netsh int ipv4 dump command and to make sure that this workaround works correctly.
