SYMPTOMS

Print preview is not accurate if no default printer is available.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To temporarily work around this problem, install a printer and make it your default printer.

To make a printer your default printer:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click the printer that you want to use as the default printer, and then click Set as Default Printer to place a check mark next to the Set as Default Printer command.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. Right-click your default printer, and then click Delete.

    NOTE: You can reinstall the printer and make it your default printer again later.
  3. Start Visio.
  4. Open a drawing.
  5. On the File menu, click Print Preview.

    Note that, depending on your screen resolution, either nothing is displayed or the top and bottom inch or two of the preview is clipped.
