Visio2000: Clipart Shapes Appear as Boxes with Xs through Them

When you paste Visio objects into Microsoft Word 97 and Microsoft PowerPoint 97, clipart shapes may appear as boxes with Xs through them.

This problem occurs only on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition.

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

To obtain SR-1, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: To temporarily work around this problem, do one of the following:

• On the Edit menu in Word or PowerPoint, click Paste Special, and then click Enhanced Metafile.

• Save the file as a Visio 5.0 file first.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

Copy a Visio drawing that contains clipart into Microsoft Word 97 or Microsoft PowerPoint 97. Note that all clipart appears as boxes with Xs through them. Visio shapes are displayed correctly.
