SYMPTOMS

When you undo a synchronized copy of an organization chart, you may receive the following error message:
First select a superior and then re-execute this command.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Visio 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.  This problem was corrected in Microsoft Visio 2000 SR-1.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. From the Organization Chart template, drag an Executive shape to the drawing page.
  2. Drag a Manager shape onto the Executive shape.
  3. Right-click the Manager shape, and then point to Create Synchronized Copy.
  4. When you are prompted, click New Page in the Create Synchronized Copy dialog box, and then click OK.
  5. On the new page, drag a Position shape onto the Manager shape.
  6. On the Edit menu, point to Undo.
  7. Repeat step 6.
  8. On page-1, click the Manager shape, and then repeat step 3.

    Note that you receive the error message mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
