Send Page by E-mail Command Adds a Duplicate File Extension When You Send a File with Internet Explorer

After you send a file by using the Send page by e-mail command in Internet Explorer, the file may contain a duplicate file extension when you attach the file to an e-mail message from an e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook Express.

This problem can occur because of an error in the way that the file name is passed to the e-mail client.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Internet Explorer version 5.01. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To work around this problem, rename the file attachment to its original file extension. To rename a file, right-click the file, type the new file name, and then press ENTER.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Internet Explorer version 5.01 Service Pack 2.
